Marty Ozinga will be stumping and pumping and feeling constituents' pain today at Mokena's Gas City station.

The Republican candidate in the heated 11th Congressional District race will pump gas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 19855 LaGrange Road, and pour out his plan to reduce gas prices and gain energy independence.

"Gas and energy are on everyone's mind these days. It's definitely the top issue," said Ozinga, president of the Mokena-based Ozinga Concrete Company.

Ozinga has outlined a comprehensive approach to provide some immediate relief and long term solutions.

Unlike Halvorson, Ozinga wants to eliminate the 6.25 percent sales tax on gasoline, which at $4 per gallon, equals 25 cents a gallon. He advocates drilling for oil in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge as a means of becoming less dependent on foreign oil and increasing domestic supplies.

Ozinga also plans to tell gas station customers today that he would support tax credits or other rewards for developing clean-burning energy, purchasing hybrid vehicles, using alternative fuels such as wind, solar or biomass energy, or investing in a green energy business.
